Lesson two: Do enough research. As a tech support person, do you subscribe to news feeds and blogs about the products you support? Do you spend time each day reading articles and books related to the products you support? Have you set up a virtual lab using VMWare, VirtualPC, or Xen so you can experiment and test your solutions before you offer them to your users? Knowledge is power and the more knowledge you have, the more you'll be empowered to delight your users with relevant, accurate solutions.
First of all the reputation of the IT services and support a company offers should be checked thoroughly. When you have a problem you'll want it solved as soon as possible, saving time, disruption and money. The internet is full of reviews of these companies and in order to check them it's easy to log-in on Google, type tech support I.T and support company reviews and get a list with dozens of results to check out.
A little advice to those already using Yahoo! Web Hosting (1) Take their tech support I.T writing with a grain of salt. If it doesn't work at first, try again, if it still doesn't work call phone support (2) If phone support even starts out like they don't know, just end that call, then call again and cross your fingers you get a good one. They do have some good phone techs. (3) Never email for support.
